Marunaka Royal FX fixed knife surfacer. This is like a giant, heavy duty hand plane turned upside down, with a power driven belt (shown in one of the pictures) above it to feed the wood past the blade. Motor is 2hp, 220 volt, 3 phase. Manufactured 2/1974. Blade is in a rotating disk shaped carrier that can be set to desired skew angle. I have two cutting heads for it; both knives are sharp. I have them set to cut a shaving between 0.0010" and 0.0015", at which setting there is no tear out or roughness left on the wood surface. Heavier cuts can be used. but at some thickness the surface gets fuzzy when cutting against the grain. (It was set heavy enough when I got it to fuzz in places.) It will cut up to 13" wide (reduced as the blade is skewed more) and plane beams up to 7" thick.
I bought it about 25 years ago. I have hardly used it in the 25 years, as I have almost never needed it. The paint is imperfect on the front below the cutter head, and on top of the hood over the belt drive. Otherwise there is no noticeable damage or wear.
It weighs about 900 pounds. It's on casters so can be rolled to the shop door. I have a friend who lives nearby who has agreed to come with a tractor with front forks to help load it if needed.
I am willing to provide more information as needed, and there is some information about Marunaka surfacers on the web. However, I will not answer "Is this still available" type responses. Thanks!
