This 1939 Martin 000-21 is a magical, “grand piano” guitar that features the ultimate tonewood combination of Adirondack spruce and Brazilian Rosewood from the greatest decade in the history of guitar construction! Here’s the demo video:

There is a depth, resonance, and beauty in the sound of the great ‘30s Martins that is unlike any other guitar brand or style built then or since. I would consider this 000-21 among the most consummate, versatile guitars I’ve had through here, and the modifications and repairs (described below) keep it in a price range that is nearly “bargain” level for a ‘30s Brazilian Rosewood Martin. This guitar was built in mid-‘39, so it features a 1 11/16” nut width as well as rear-shifted scalloped X-bracing.
This 000-21 has been modified/repaired in the following ways: neck reset; refret (with jumbo fretwire); oversprayed and buffed (but the original finish is intact, i.e. it was not stripped); replaced pickguard; removed oversized pickguard that left a significant footprint; replaced tuners (Waverlys currently installed), bridge, bridgeplate, nut, saddle, and bridge pins; repaired top crack on the upper bout near fretboard/soundhole; several repaired back cracks. There is the typical lacquer checking and surface wear of a well-used vintage guitar, but structurally, everything is in good shape in light of the repair history.
This sweet piece of Martin history was recently appraised for $15,000 by Beau Hudson of Music City Vintage Guitars, which is the asking price here. Comes in a newer Guardian hardshell case.
