Fact 1: The vast majority of employers who offer health coverage to employees (they do it by CHOICE, by the way, it certainly isn't a requirement) offer at least two tiers of coverage.
Fact 2: Regarding your friend with the $8,000 hernia bill - Pay the extra $100 per month for the higher tier coverage and it would take 6.67 years for that extra payment to reach $8,000. Point - pay more for the better coverage that's offered.
Fact 3: The forefathers, in the Constitution, did NOT say that it was the government's responsiblity for PROVIDE for the general welfare. They stated that the federal government should PROMOTE the general welfare.
Fact 4: "General welfare" in 1787 CERTAINLY didn't mean the 'welfare' you think of today. The framers meant to steer the federal government away from too much unnecessary governing.
Fact 5: The government is completely incapable of 'just taking over as the payer' of anything. The government will always regulate any industry in which they are the 'payer.'
Fact 6: YOU need to get better health coverage. Guess what, it's going to cost you a little more each month. But paying for that better coverage now means you won't be hit with that astronomical bill in the future. It's called PLANNING AHEAD. It's not your employer's fault that you chose the $20 a month health plan when they offered a much more comprehensive plan for $150 a month. Remember, they don't HAVE to provide any coverage at all. IT'S A GIFT! If you were to pay for the $20 a month plan on your own, it would cost you well over $150. YOUR EMPLOYER IS DOING YOU A FAVOR!
Fact 7: As a human being who is better off than many (I'm lower middle class) I feel like it's my responsibility to help those who can't help themselves. But it is NOT the government's responsiblity or jurisdiction to take money from my wallet to distribute. There are charities all over the world who manage their money a thousand times better than the United States Government. THOSE are the people who deserve to receive my voluntary charitable gifts.
Fact 8: My father is a medical doctor. His father was a medical doctor. My aunt and uncle are both PhD and MD medical researchers. My family has been involved in medicine and health care since the turn of the 20th century. And not ONE of them has one good thing to say about socialized health care.
Fact 9: You are whining because you took a cheaper health plan because it meant you would have more take-home pay.
It sucks that so many people don't have good health insurance, but it isn't a right. It is not a guarantee to human beings, it is not a guarantee to Americans. You need to appreciate the breaks that those 'evil rich CEO's' (who don't make the decisions, by the way, the stockholders elect the board who then makes the decisions) are offering you in exchange for your crappy service and bad attitude. Be happy that you have a job, and be happy that you have any insurance at all. Trust me, if I were your employer, your employment would end yesterday.

This is why UNIONS need to come back.The guy doing the work should be pairly compensated.When a CEO makes 50 million a year and he says healthcare costs are too high then hes a liar. His salary is outragoues and too high ,not health insurance. Im sorry but when a company cuts benefits on good employees for short term stock ganis then something has to be done. You mention 20 dollar a month plans. Ive never seen one. EVER and im 38.. Its usually around $500 a month for a family. Individual is cheaper but there are alot more familys than singles working for companys. Who can afford $500 a month?? I cant. I dont have a car payment either. I dont have credt cards. Its just too high. Deductibles are growing too. Sorry but UNIONS NOW!!!! A corporation cant make money if there arent any workers. Go overseas and who will you sell your crap too mr corporation??

The govt isnt the answer either. I believe that is true. Its in less greed at the corporate level. Govt is too big as it is. GOVT run healthcare is the VA .....* shudder*
