The Sudanese Community and Women's Services Center is a not-for-profit, community-based organization dedicated to empowering refugees and immigrants who have resettled in Middle Tennessee. The Center provides direct social services as well as educational programs. We serve refugees and immigrants from Africa, Middle East, South East Asian and many other regions. Our clients come from 30 different countries.
The opportunity:
This is a 20 hour position. The individual should plan to spend some time in the Nashville office each week, but other portions of the work may be performed from home and on a flexible schedule.
The bookkeeper is responsible for:
• Operating the agency’s computerized QuickBooks™ accounting system
• Processing payroll, accounts receivable, accounts payable, and general ledger transactions
• Reconciling balances including petty cash, bank accounts, and other asset and liability accounts
• Preparing a variety of financial reports on a daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual basis
• Working with the executive director to develop a detailed operational budget and to analyze variances
• Assisting with periodic audits by the agency’s external auditor and various grant-making authorities
• Working with office staff to continually improve the company’s internal controls and operational procedures
Requirements:
• 5 or more years of bookkeeping experience
• Familiarity with QuickBooks™ including payroll
• Knowledge of general accounting principles
• Familiarity with Microsoft Excel™ and Word™
• Ability to read and write English
• Outstanding teamwork abilities
• Ability to follow instructions carefully
• Attention to detail while working at a fast pace
• Willingness to work overtime from time to time
• Uncompromising integrity in all areas of professional performance
• Flexibility while working in an environment characterized by frequent interruptions, requests for help, and changes in priorities
Preference will be given to candidates who have:
• Experience working with not-for-profit organizations

Bachelor’s degree required, with master’s degree in counseling, psychology, or social work preferred; experience working with youth and youth serving agencies preferred. Training/presentation experience required. Experience in the areas of suicide prevention and/or crisis intervention preferred. Great familiarity with Microsoft Office software and presentation technology required. Must have a valid driver’s license and be available for statewide travel, to include periodic overnight trips, 75% of the time. Salary will be commensurate with education and experience. • Develop, supervise and chaperone programs for youth and children.
• Meet and work with Christian Education Committee in planning and coordinating events and programs, and offering leadership for that
group.
• Assist in the direction of Sunday school department for all age groups, with primary focus on children under 18
• Promote and participate in church camps, retreats, and rallies as necessary.
• Coordinate volunteers from the Church and lead them to accomplish programs and events as laid out by the Committee.

Kitchen and Facilities Team Leader
• Coordinate meal preparation for residential programs
• Manage and track in-kind donations of food and supplies
• Order food and maintenance supplies as needed
• Assist with coordination of volunteer meal programs
• Coordinate food preparation for agency events, meetings, and activities
• Work in collaboration with other teams to ensure proper cleanliness and maintenance of agency facility and grounds
• Establish relationships with vendors and contractors
• Facilitate building repairs as necessary
• Assist project leaders during construction of new agency facility
• Supervise facilities and kitchen team member
• Perform other duties as assigned
Master’s degree in social work, psychology, or a related field, a minimum of five years experience in the area of children’s mental health and five years supervisory experience. Knowledge of the transition aged population with SED and SMI and especially the system of care philosophy of working with families. Proven skills in networking among a diverse group of agencies and in coalition building. Ability to write professionally, public speaking, planning, budgeting, and personnel management.
