the right situation:
something rock or maybe metal. can be light and ethereal (so much for being concise). something post-apocalyptic. something that mimics space. people who care more about making amazing music than worrying about who to please. something that makes fun of creed would be pretty cool.

The track is an uptempo country blues/americana song about...what else?..a troubled relationship and I've come up with a concept for the video that I think will really provide a showcase for the right singer.
I'm looking for an experienced vocalist to sing the track and act in the video in exchange for using it for their promotion. Hopefully a win for both of us.

Guitarist with quality playing, arranging, and vocal skills seeks local work after completion of long gig that recently ended. Prefer rock, r&b, blues, or even traditional jazz but open to suggestion. Pick-up and sub dates are fine as is becoming a member of a real working band playing covers. Fluid sight reader if that skill set is needed. Not stuffy about money. High end and boutique gear. Regional travel is fine (within 4 hours of Nashville) but I am not looking for a big time gig while I stay home and do some things for me. No bad habits at all or attitude issues. I got a call from a Priest who asked me to come to his Church to play.
I got paid, and then he hired me. I Worshiped God with heavenly music, and he gave me earthly things - money.
It's getting old that musicians are being taken advantage of, especially in these hard times.
We are looking for the following:
- Must play a 5 string electric minimum - 4 does not cover our required range
- Must be able to play off of charts if needed and learn a repertoire of about 100 songs consisting of country, pop, 80's, and classic/modern rock music
- Must be willing to leave home for tours up to 3 months in length with 1 month breaks between
- Must provide your own equipment - instrument, amp, cables, etc.
- Prior touring experience a PLUS
- Skilled backup vocal ability is HIGHLY PREFFERED
Current pay offer is a flat $450 per week, which will be adjusted upwards as takes generally improve. We also have a home available (at the moment) to offer as a place to roommate between runs to help reduce your bills so you can save as much as possible on the road. We have all of our necessary equipment and transportation, from a digital LED lighting system (no hot stages!) to a full powered sound system. We are a skilled and highly seasoned group of musicians; we have completed 2 tours and plan on many more. All inquiries will be kept confidential. We understand that a lot of young musicians are in bands with their friends and schoolmates and may be afraid to tell them they are auditioning for another band. If you think you have what it takes don't rob yourself of the opportunity.
Players who play for free are scabs taking the food right out of our mouths.
Here is some insight based on nearly forty years of playing music.
1. Club owners who regularly have free entertainment are not going to suddenly start paying if nobody shows up to do their gig. Conversely, you are not going to get paid work or be discovered doing those gigs. Look at it as an unpaid rehearsal with a live audience. You learn more playing in front of real people.
2. Broadway players are some of the best in the world. It takes a real musician, confident in his/her abilities to pull that gig off. Many of the songs are requests that you may not have played or even heard. That is how you make your money. You play, people tip you. You have to be able to pull it off and sound professional doing it. This is not for everybody. You have to have it together to play downtown. It is much harder than any artist gig that I have played.
3. Being a good hang counts as much as chops. Don't be a jackass. If you go out, you are around the same bunch for the duration of the trip. It is your family and support group. Nobody wants to hang with a jackass. It is not about you. It is about the group sounding as good as possible.
4. There are people who play an instrument and there are musicians. Musicians listen. They know when to play and when not to play. They don't play over the top of the vocalist or another musician who is providing fills. A musician knows when to let something breathe.
5. Every opportunity to play music is an opportunity to learn. I play a lot of different types of music with a lot of different people. Some of you would call me a hired gun. I am a better musician because of it. I play everything from classic country to modern alternative rock. I don't make value judgment on it. It makes me a better player for being exposed to many different styles. Every time I play, I try to learn and be better. That is the goal.
As regards the debate between hired guns and those willing to sacrifice their time and soul for the art of music.
You are not an artist if you don't have a deal. You are what you do to put food on the table who writes and/or sings. If you can't find players who will work up your material for free, try something different.
Get proficient on an instrument so that you can accompany yourself and play the writers nights to get your chops down.
Try giving a co-writers credit to those who help arrange your material.
Quit bitching because all of us hired guns don't recognize your genius.
This town is full of bright, talented singer songwriters. There might be a reason why the whores to money are not giving up their paid gigs to play for you for free. Maybe you don't have the chops. Maybe we have done it in an earlier time in our lives and been fired for the backup band the record company put together that had more of THE LOOK they wanted. Maybe we even helped write some of the songs and didn't get credit for it. And just possible, We Whores are worth it because we know the difference between a 5 low and a 3 high and can make you sound your best.
That is enough bitching for now. I have to go get ready to watch the Titans and then go down town to whore out my musical ability.
